Simple Animation with Adobe Image Ready
We obtain animation displaying successive images which content is changed from a frame to another.
Step 1 Open in Photoshop a new document 200×100 pixels.
Step 2 Draw new guides on the document. Go to View -> New Guide… -> and choose the next coordinates:
- horizontal: 10 pixels and 90 pixels
- vertical: 10 pixels , 90 pixels and 190 pixels
Step 3 Add another layer (Ctrl+Shift+N)
Step 4 Select Rectangular Marquee Tool (M) and make a similar selection with the below:

Step 5 Select the blue color
Step 6 Select Paint Bucket Tool (G) and click in the interior of the selected area.
Step 7 Select option Deselect (Ctrl+D)
Step 8 Export the document in Image Ready. Go to File -> Edit in Image Ready.
Step 9 In the worked area we need open the windows: Tools, Animation and Layers. Go to Window menu and select the wanted windows.

Step 10 Select in the Layer window Layer 1
Step 11 Select Move Tool (V).
Step 12 Now we duplicate the current frame. Hit Duplicate current frame according to the image below.

Step 13 Press ten time the -> key on your keyboard. The image will be moved to the right 10 pixels.
Step 14 Now we set the delay for displaying a frame (from 0 to 10 seconds) by pressing Select frame delay time distinguish in the above image.
Repeat steps 12 and 13 until the blue square will reach the right side of the document. We wil have in the end 11 frames.
Step 15 Save the animated image. File -> Save Optimized As… (choosing .gif format)
Step 16 Save the document in .psd format. Go to File -> Save
Step 17 The final image is represented below:

Note The less the difference between frames is, the natural is the movement. In this example the image is jerky because between 2 frames the square is moved with 10 pixels. If it were 2-3 pixels the jerky effect wouldn’t be present anymore.
